How to Import WooCommerce Products from CSV or XML

Last updated October 1, 2026

Overview

Importing WooCommerce products with WP Import Export allows you to seamlessly map simple products, variable products, stock quantities, attributes, galleries, and custom metadata from any CSV, XML, or Excel file.

Step 1: Uploading Your Data Source

Navigate to WP Import Export → New Import:

  • Upload from Computer: Select a .csv, .xml, or .xlsx file from your machine.
  • Download from URL: Fetch data from a live remote URL or Google Sheet feed.
  • Select Post Type: Choose WooCommerce Products from the dropdown.

Step 2: Drag & Drop Field Mapping

Our intuitive visual field mapper makes connecting your file columns to WooCommerce product fields effortless:

  • Product Title: Drag the title column into the Title box.
  • Regular & Sale Price: Drag price columns and apply optional percentage price modification rules.
  • Inventory & SKU: Map your unique SKU, set stock status (In Stock / Out of Stock), and manage backorders.
  • Images & Gallery: Supply remote image URLs or local filenames. The plugin will automatically download, optimize, and attach them.
Important: When importing large galleries (10,000+ images), ensure your server max_execution_time is set to at least 300 seconds, or use our Background Processing mode.

Step 3: Managing Existing Products & Unique Identifier

To avoid creating duplicate products when re-importing updated inventory, choose a unique identifier such as the SKU or Product Title.

// Example: Custom PHP filter to modify product prices during import
add_filter( 'wpie_before_product_save', function( $product_data ) {
    if ( isset( $product_data['regular_price'] ) ) {
        // Apply 10% markup
        $product_data['regular_price'] = floatval( $product_data['regular_price'] ) * 1.10;
    }
    return $product_data;
} );
